We do need to encourage an entertainment district in the south loop, that stretches all the way to Union Station. Life was good space, and Club Chemical is supposed to be nice. We're moving in the right direction, with the main street activity. KC really does need to have a few big clubs. Too many drunken fools who would feel the need to demonstrate their manhood. I'm not sure we could dance together without harrassment. I know I would not feel safe going there and being visibly gay. I really can't see a large gay contingent being welcomed in Westport. I am getting fairly excited about the Crossroads area, because it is building up a nice mix of gay and straight clubs. But the downside is that the clubs are more scattered. Its nice that in Kansas City we don't feel the need to have a gay "ghetto" for protection. It tends to create an area similar to Westport, but with a focus on gay/lesbian crowd. This is tru in New Orleans, Chicago, San Diego, New York, Dallas, etc. Most other cities tend to have a gay area, with the major clubs clusted close enough to walk to. The biggest difference I've seen here is that they are so scattered. I think for city our size, we have a good number of bars. But your'e right, we could use a couple more bars. KC has 3 big gay dance bars: The DB warehouse, Tootsie's, and Missie B's. Tat2kc: where do all the Stand and Model people go now that edge and the cab are no more?Ī lot of the S&M crowd does Missie B's, and the DB on some nights, but they usually stay downstairs. The nightlife in KC isn't tooooooooo bad could be much much worse. like tangerine in st louis or about a thousand in chicago. i love being able to go somewhere and have some drinks and hear good music (from a DJ - rare in laidback KC joints). There really arent that many "big city" style hip and trendy, but laid back places in KC. it's one of a handful of places i've actually seen the "Cruel Intentions" style cocaine-vial necklace action as well. be sure to go if you spot a flyer for a special guest DJ.Īqua isn't too bad. My favorite bar in KC is KABAL, specifically on Thursday nights, when the Deepfix guys do "Frisky." it's very fun and everyone is more than welcome. I always thought XO was pretty fun during the "gay night." i think gay people are pretty much welcome there anyway, but it's just that Thursday they really tried to reach out to the LGBT community.having said that, i dont think they do it anymore, heheheh. Personally, I would not patronize a bar that welcomed me one day a week. They used to have a gay night, but not sure if they do that anymore. The only straight bar I know of that was gay friendly is XO. The DB and Missie B's are the two main ones that attract a sizeable straight crowd. I've only been to a few, it really depends on the crowd you like. There may be a few more, but I think most of them.
